Plan ahead
Planning for self storage gives you the best chance to optimise space and efficiently store your belongings. Start by making a list of everything you are storing and map out how these items will be placed into your storage container. These tips below will set you off in the best direction towards efficiently and safely storing your belonging.
Order of Storage
It is best to store large or heavy items that can be stacked upon each other at the back of the storage container. Then work your way to the front and ensure that light, fragile items that you may need regular access to are placed at the front of the storage container.
Efficient Storage
To maximise space, longer items such as mattresses, beds, lounges and tables are best stored on the side walls of the container.
Ensure that all boxes are filled to capacity. Partially packed boxes may give way and collapse if other boxes are stacked on top. Heavier items such as books, documents, appliances and tools should be packed into smaller boxes to safeguard against any lifting injury. Books and documents are best to store flat – not on the spine.
White goods such as fridges and freezers should be cleaned and dried before storing. To avoid mould, leave the door open when storing.
To maximise space in your storage container and prevent damage, it is recommended that larger bulkier items that can be dismantled (such as furniture legs) are taken apart
Empty the contents of cupboards, wardrobes and drawers before moving to protect your furniture.
